Betty Louise Flowers Jones Blackmon, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, September 28, at her home in Brandon, Mississippi. Betty was born on March 3, 1933, in Rolling Fork, MS to Etta May and Willie Earl Flowers. She grew up near Rolling Fork, MS and attended Rolling Fork High School. She was employed for many years by MP&L and later Entergy, where she retired in 1994. After retirement, she and husband Earl, loved to travel around the country in their RV to experience life and go places they had never been. The majority of those travels typically included a ballroom, square or round dance event where they met many new friends and were often the first and last on the dance floor showing off their advanced skills. She was a very active lady in her community by hosting monthly Bunco games, participating in activities at the YMCA, always being the friendly neighbor down the street and attending all church social gatherings. Betty was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Fannin where she and Earl enjoyed being a part of the fellowship of their Friendship Sunday School Class where she served as Secretary/Treasurer. They actively traveled with The Cornerstone Group of Senior Adults and grew closer to them within their church family through those travels. Her pastor, Ron Bird was a great family friend to her. She loved living her life to the fullest and truly enjoyed each moment she had with family and friends. She had a tender spirit with lots of love to share and anyone that met her, could feel that love. She focused on the positive and always lifted the spirits of those around her with a smile on her face and giving “big hugs” of encouragement and support. She was preceded in death by former spouse, Albert Ernest Jones, her sisters Willie Mae Maxey and Dorothy Ritter and brother, Edgar Flowers, along with her daughter and best friend, Elizabeth “Libby” Jones Lynch. She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Walton Earl Blackmon of Brandon, MS, three step-daughters, Sharon Boyd (Gene) of Irving, TX, JoAnn Fairchild (Johnnie) of Petal, MS, and Joyce Kay Blackmon of Silver Creek, MS. She also leaves behind 10 grandchildren who loved her dearly, Robert Henry Furr Lynch, III (Kristi) of Chattanooga, TN, James Brooks Lynch, Jr. (Jessica) of Oxford, MS, Jason Patrick Boyd (Cassie) of Heartland, TX, Amy Leigh Boyd of Irving, TX, Johnnie Royce Fairchild, Jr. of Hattiesburg, MS, Justin Eric Fairchild of Petal, MS, Kimberley Renee’ Upshaw (Harlon) of Petal, MS, Royceanne Demae’ Odom (Matthew) of Petal, MS, Kayce Joyce Carter (Anthony) of Princeton, TX, and Donald Wayne Carter (Jessica) of Seminary, MS. She also leaves behind 15 great-grandchildren who were deeply loved by Gran. Her surviving nephews and nieces were always sharing her love, Eddie Flowers, Rickey Flowers, Rodney Flowers, Mike Flowers, Mary Frances Maxey and Faye Castello. Visitation will be held at Glenwood Funeral Home in Rolling Fork, MS, Tuesday October 12, 2021 at 1:00 pm with a memorial service to follow at 2:00 pm. Brother Steve Abercrombie will be officiating. A burial service will follow at Mound Cemetery in Rolling Fork. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Fannin Building Fund, 101 Church Road, Brandon, MS 39047.
