I will drink a wee dram of fine Scotch to toast my friend Nancy on 23Oct2021. Wish I could be there in person to share. Nancy's is a life well lived. She made a lasting difference in my life and a lot of others - Some memories:
Talking with her about important things while visiting her in Becky Bacot dorm in 1977 at Milsaps College. Nancy was a chosen sister.
Her angelic appearance as discharge nurse at UNC Chapel Hill Hospital when Betsy and our son Alan was discharged from one of his many hospitalizations to treat Cystic Fibrosis. We didn't know that Nancy had moved to North Carolina, found and married Marc. Alan, our youngest son is doing great, a miracle at 36, thanks to many angels and care providers like Nancy. Nancy was a surprise blessing that day when we really needed encouragement.
And to reconnect with Nancy and meet Marc visiting our home in NC and sharing joy, laughs and the trials of her journey.
Though we don't always stay in touch, true friends are for eternity. Nancy - see you on the other side of the "thin places", where the veil between heaven and earth is very thin.
Slainte Mhath (Slange Var) to Your Health - Nancy, You are Whole and Holy now in Heaven. - Joel Youngblood

Nancy was one of those rare "steel magnolia's". She was both amazingly gracious and kind... with a strong southern accent (!)... but also had her own thoughts and opinions. It made her a fun person to talk to about important things. I recall driving with her to a talk we did together many years ago when she worked at UNC, and how much fun it was-- both serious conversations and lots of laughter. The world has lost an amazing soul.

I had the honor of working with Nancy for several years at UNC Wellness Center as her personal trainer. The moment we laid eyes on eachother there was a connection. She later told me that when I walked up to her, she saw strength and kindness which put her at ease. I instantly loved her and thought of her often since she left NC to return home to Mississippi.

I met Nancy 20 years ago when I worked at Presbyterian Urban Ministry in Durham, N.C.and she joined us as a volunteer. I admired the way she always showed respect, acceptance, and concern for everyone she met.
We had a wonderful long-distance friendship. I cherish the memories of our lengthy phone calls. We talked about everything (especially her precious cats and my adorable dogs!) and always ended with “Love You.” She instinctively knew when to call and what to say to offer support and she kept me smiling with funny cards.
My husband and I also visited with Marc and Nancy over the years and enjoyed the comfort of their friendship. Our trip to Chicago to see “Hamilton” with them is another treasured memory.
Even as she battled her own serious health issues, Nancy always loved and cared for her many friends. I am fortunate to have been one of them. I will miss her.
