Mary Cooper Taylor Blackerby passed away on November 29, 2017. She was 91. She was a kind and good person with a wonderful sense of humor. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a loyal friend. Her family and friends will miss her terribly.
Mary was born on July 12, 1926 in Richmond, VA. She was the youngest daughter of Hoyt Taylor and Nancy Ford Taylor. Mary graduated from Atherton High School in Louisville, KY and attended the University of Louisville where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. At U of L, Mary met her future husband, Morris Yager Blackerby, Jr. Mary and her young family moved from Louisville, KY to Jackson, MS in 1963. Mary was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Jackson. She worked for twenty years for Sound & Communications in Jackson. After she and her husband retired, they made many trips to see many parts of our world. In later years, Mary and Yager resided in Sunnybrook Estates in Madison, MS.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by a brother, Hoyt "Junie" Taylor and a sister, Nancy Ellen Taylor. Left to cherish her memory are Yager, her husband of 69 years; her four children: Morris Y. "Red" Blackerby, III, Bruce Taylor Blackerby of Homewood, AL, Sally Ann Blackerby of Hoover, AL and Ben Scott Blackerby (Nyma) of Clinton, MS; her granddaughter, Kelly Elaine Blackerby; and her great grandson, Landon Kade Layton. Mary is also survived by her sister Ann Likins Turner of Louisville, KY; her three nieces, Nancy Jefferson, Judy Babcock (Dennis), and Mary Ann Bohannon, all of Louisville, KY; and her nephew, Harlan Taylor of Georgetown, IN.
Friends are invited to a visitation with the family from 4-6PM, Monday December 4, 2017, at the Natchez Trace Funeral Home, 759 US-51, Madison, MS 39110.
The family would like to thank Dr. Thais Tonore, Ernestine Johnson and Betty Clarke for their compassionate care and friendship. They were with Mary on her life's journey to the end.
