Lyla Claire (Burnside) McGlinchey
Lyla Claire (Burnside) McGlinchey, 42, passed awaypeacefully on December 5 at her home in Madison, MSsurrounded by family after a long bout with breast cancer. Lyla grew up in Freetown, IN to William and Katherine Burnside. She more recently lived in Indianapolis, IN, Midland, MI, Cincinnati, OH and Madison, MS.
Lyla exhibited extraordinary faith, compassion and generosity during her life. Her vivacious, loving and loyal spirit will always be ever-present. Lyla is survived by her husband of 10 years, Drew McGlinchey, daughter Barbara (7), parents William and Katherine Burnside, brother W.T. (Jennifer) Burnside, nephews Jalen Curry, Alec andAugustas Thomas, niece Josslyn Burnside, father-in-law Mark McGlinchey and sisters-in-law Jill (Jerry) Thomas and Molly McGlinchey.
Lyla was a graduate of Brownstown (IN) High School and Indiana University, earning her degree in Journalism. She had a very successful career with The Dow Chemical Company - working in a client facing customer representative role for the last ten years. A devout Catholic, Lyla was an active parishioner at St. Maximillian Kolbe in Cincinnati and St. Francis of Assisi in Madison.
Lyla exhibited incredible strength and courage during a nearly five-year battle with metastatic breast cancer. She inspired countless individuals during her journey. In lieu offlowers, please make donations in Lyla’s name to 100 Voices of Hope with the IU Simon Cancer Center – research dollars channeled to emerging ideas and extending the quality of life for metastatic breast cancer patients.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of LourdesCatholic Church in Indianapolis on Friday, December 15that 10:00 AM.
