Barbara O'Brien, 91, of Madison, passed away on January 30, 2022, at Merit Health in Madison County. Barbara was born on January 14, 1931, to Nathan H. and Stella Kendrick Broome in Harrisonburg, Louisiana. She was an Air Force Veteran who had the honor of marching in the inaugural parade for President Dwight D. Eisenhower. She married Stephen H. O'Brien while both were serving in the Air Force. After her military career, she worked for the University of Southern Mississippi until her retirement. Barbara is survived by a daughter, Carla Lott and son in law Joe of Madison, MS; sons, Pete O'Brien and daughter in law Karen of Madison, MS, Chris O'Brien and daughter in law Sarah of Picayune, MS, and Steven O'Brien of Madison, MS; sister, Connie Murphree of Sumrall, MS; 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen H. O'Brien, parents, and 9 siblings. A funeral service will be held on Friday February 4, 2022, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Gluckstadt at 11:00 am with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Joseph Church Endowment Fund, St. Joseph Church Cemetery Endowment Fund, Boys Town, or a charity of your choice.
