Becky and I have been friends since we were both students at the Univ. of Mississippi School of Nursing. We worked together at the University Hospital until her retirement and served together in the 134 Combat Support Hospital in the Mississippi Army National Guard where she was known as COL Blocker. As a young nurse Becky recognized a need at the hospital for someone to help patient with new and problematic ostomies learn to care for themselves and their new way of living. She studied and became the University Hospital's very First enterostomal nurse. Only those of us who were there can appreciate what a special service this was not only to ostomy patients, but also to those of us who needed someone like Becky to guide us in their care. This is not a job for everyone, but Becky served these patients with sensitivity and devotion second to none.
I also served with Becky for 27 years in the National Guard where she was considered an expert in her field and provided a great service to the Guard and its soldiers. Becky never left a job unfinished and not only finished, but finished in a manner that reflected her attention to completeness and perfection. She was a dear friend, always willing to help and support where she could.
So farewell my sweet and long-term friend. We will meet again on the other side. My sincerest condolences to her husband Sam, her sister Joan, and her bothers, nieces and nephews and all those who loved her.
