Carl Nelson Bishop 55, of Madison, MS was called home to be with the Lord on December 21, 2017 in Jackson, MS surrounded by his family. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 26, 2017 from 5-7 p.m. at Natchez Trace Funeral Home in Madison, MS. A second visitation will be Wednesday, December 27, 2017 from 10-11 a.m. at Parkway Hills United Methodist Church in Madison, MS. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 27, 2017. A Graveside service will be held Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at 3:00p.m. in Duckhill, MS in the Marshill Cemetery located on Shiloh Rd.
Carl was born in Kosciusko 55 years ago to Caldwell and Dorelle Bishop. He graduated from McAdams High School in 1979, and then attended Holmes Community College where he met his future wife, Nora Whitten. They were married in 1981 and resided in Oxford, MS. Carl joined the Air Force in 1983 and served 13 years active duty as a turbo prop/jet engine mechanic and master instructor at the Little Rock Air Force Base. He received two Associates Degrees from the Community College of the Air Force. In 1996, Carl was honorably discharged and moved his family back to Mississippi. He returned to the military shortly after this by joining the Mississippi Army National Guard as a helicopter mechanic and crew chief. He served overseas in operations in Kosovo and in Afghanistan. He received many accommodations and medals over his time in service. He retired from the Mississippi Army National Guard this October with-over thirty years of military service.
Carl loved his God, his country, and his family. He was an avid photographer, super Poppy to his grandchildren, patient father, loving husband, and the best friend you always hoped for. He was happiest being with family or flying in a Blackhawk over the Mississippi countryside. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
He is preceded in passing by his father.
Carl is survived by his loving wife of Thirty-Six and a Half years, Nora Whitten Bishop of Madison, MS., one daughter, Laura Bishop Pickle and her husband Clayton of Canton, MS., three sons, Stephen Bishop and his wife Lauren of Madison, MS., Nicholas Bishop and his Fiancé, Maria of Madison, MS., Christopher Bishop of Madison, MS., his mother, Dorelle Bishop of Sallis, MS., three brothers, Glynn Bishop of Sallis, MS., Ronnie Bishop and his wife Judy of Sallis, MS., Barry Bishop and his wife Fay of Sallis, MS., five grandchildren, Nora Kate Bishop, James Pickle, Adalind Claire Bishop, Caroline Pickle, Abigail Pickle.
Memorials may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society the Wounded Warriors of Mississippi and the Hederman Cancer center at Baptist Hospital in Jackson, MS.
