Barbara Nell Banahan Baine, affectionately known as “Granny” was born in Shreveport, LA on October 4, 1930. At age 5, her family moved to Overton, TX. She lived in Texas and Louisiana before settling in Jackson, MS in 1944. After graduating from Central High School in 1948, she attended Ole Miss and LSU. She was an airline stewardess for Southern Airways before retiring to marry Louis G. Baine, Jr. During their marriage they lived in Jackson, Gloster, and Woodville, MS then Baton Rouge, LA before moving back to settle in Jackson with their four children in 1971. Barbara was a member of St. Lukes UMC and served as fifth grade Sunday School teacher, Thrift shop worker, Missions chairman, and was in WFA. In the 70’s she opened A Holiday Place, a specialty antiques and gift store. Barbara served as a member of the Board of Bethlehem Center She also volunteered for Habitat for Humanity and was a travel agent. She loved her family, music, art, gardening and flowers. Barbara is pre-deceased by her husband Louis G. Baine, Jr., parents Elizabeth and Ben Banahan, brother Dr. Benny Banahan, sister, Ann Sumrall, son-in-law Dr. David McMurray and grandson Ben McMurray. She is survived by her children Cynthia McMurray, Louis Baine, III, Elizabeth Baine, and Bill Baine. She is survived by grandchildren Sarah Owens, Brad McMurray, Connor Baine, Casey Baine, Barrett Baine and Claire Baine; and her great-grandchildren Clark Owens, Mac Owens, Eloise McMurray, Callie McMurray, Mills McMurray and Ben McMurray. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to a charity of your choice. Visitation with the family will be Monday, November 28, 2022 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Natchez Trace Funeral Home, 759 U.S -51, Madison, MS 39110 Funeral services will immediately follow the visitation.
