Tommy touched many lives in numerous ways.
For us , we saw Tommy frequently at Chaine des Rotisseurs functions. Tommy helped us restart the Chaine in Mississippi 11 years ago. When he was able, he never missed a function. He would add life and happiness to our events.
Tommy was a Minch ( good person, gentleman)

We first got to know the James' family over 30 years ago when we carpooled together to St. Andrews...Greg must have been a 1st or 2nd grader, and Kristi was in Kindergarten. Tommy and I found each other over our fascination with woodworking. We spent hours together in Tommy's garage shop, talking about woodworking or working on projects. We were absolutely convinced that there was nothing we couldn't build if we put our minds to it. I am pretty sure that Tommy had not done any woodturning at that time, and am amazed at the pictures posted on his remembrance video at the amazing skill he developed on the lathe. I always thought the world of Tommy and Marsha, and often tried to stop by to visit on trips back home. Tommy made a great mark on this world...He will be greatly missed! Roger and Jean Lindsey

Tommy and I grew up in Natchez . I knew him. He vaguely knew me from football. I followed his career from high school to Ole Miss as a friendly Ole Miss athlete. In the summer(July) of 1967, just months out of high school. As a freshman, I was to play football and run track at Colin Jr College. That July day, I went to the high school football field and track to work out. Shocked, there was Tommy (ALL SEC-Ole Miss) Jerry Richardson (All SEC-Ole Miss) and Joe Fortunato (All-Pro-Bears). I was “awe-struck” doing my work out! Tommy came over to me with a half serious smile and said come work out with us! That invitation “jacked up” my workout about two or three levels! I was floating. I never forgot about him. Many years later, when my wife’s sister passed away, Tommy came by our house to pay his respects! He was still the Tommy I knew about in high school! He will be missed!

Tommy and I took Orthopaedic call for each other for several years. I always felt comfortable knowing my patients were in his very capable hands if he was covering. We also frequently operated at the same time and he was so entertaining in the surgery lounge. He will be truly missed.

I will miss the light and joy he radiated in every encounter. He was one of my first friends to acquire when I moved to Jackson from Memphis. True to his love of music, our first social experience was a triple date with Michael Vice and our wives to the Rod Stewart concert at the Coliseum in Jackson. He kept us all laughing, and he certainly rocked with the music.
We have lost a wonderful and gifted friend; but he has left in our hearts and minds an abundance of cheerful memories.

Tommy was one of the finest people I have ever known in my life! He made my high school complete by treating me with respect and kindness. We dated three years and in those three years we had so much fun and he showed me the kind of person I wanted to be in life and for that I will always be grateful! My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this difficult time! May God give you the strength and courage to go forward. Mel Duke Ford

Dr. James was a great fellow! I knew him for years when I worked at Rankin Medical Center. He was always kind to my staff and me, very cheerful and funny. He did surgery on my mom’s foot several years ago. Deepest sympathy to his family. Rest in peace, Dr. Tommy James!

Tommy and I started our first Rock and Roll Band, The Sharks, at the old Natchez High School in 1961. Didn’t last long; played our only gig at the Natchez Auditorium and went to Jackson to play for a televised teen dance show. His Mother was my piano teacher and I had a preteen crush on his Sister Mildred Anne! His Dad and mine were close friends. Tommy was a great guy and fun to be around. His passing was a shock to me.
R.I.P. dear friend, Dr. Tommy.

I'll not forget our Mission trip from NBC to Honduras, as Tommy and Marsha, Kristi and Greg joined our serious and loving, dedicated Missionaries. I recall how the family "took" to the villagers, while building houses, painting soup kitchens and churches......and Tommy literally giving the shirt off his back and his watch - to some friends he had made while there, just as our bus departed!! NEVER forget Dr. Tommy James!!

Q: How did you meet Dr. Edward?
A: I meet Tommy first at a Magnolia Woodturners meeting at a urinal. He would start a conversation anywhere and that is positively one of his virtues. Even if he was wrong he would not admit it. At a woodturning symposium several of us were talking to other turners. Tommy comes up and says to a lady "when are you due" . She said she was not expecting and he just went on with the conversation as though nothing was said. He could break the frost off any crowd with his open style.

As an orthopedic nurse for almost 25 years at St. D’s I have to say that Dr. James was one of my favorites to see when he came to our unit. You could always hear him before you saw him. He was always animated, entertaining, and full of mischief and fun. He will always be remembered. No doubt about that. My sincere condolences to family and all who were touched in some way this force of nature who we fondly called Big Daddy Dr. James. May he rest in peace.
