Robert was one of the baseball players on our MRYC team that Joe Newell and I Coached around age 9 or 10u. Robert was a great kid and we enjoyed coaching him due to his learning nature and demeanor. He was a great teammate. I followed him through his high school football years at St. Joe and he truly became a great athlete. Thoughts and prayers remain for comfort and healing by his wife and two daughters and Bob and his family. Hated to hear of his passing. May God Bless him and his family, Keith D. Obert, Esq.

Q: How did you meet Robert?
A: When the Hamil’s first transfered to St Joe I had the pleasure of having art class with Robert. Robert kept all the teachers on their toes and the students laughing.
Some of my favorite memories of Robert come from my days in college. I shared an apartment with his sister (Bailey) so on big game days Robert would come stay with us in Starkville and the stories there are endless. Robert never failed to keep us all laughing but also safe. He always made sure we made it back to the apartment in one piece. Thanks to my friendship with his sister I got to stay in touch with Robert and watch him grow into a great man, husband and father.

I will always hold dear to my heart the memories that we shared with you guys in Alabama. Bob and Jeanne, you guys were party poopers and went to bed. But, myself, Bill Hughes...Sydney and Sophie and of course Robert, Bailey and Lucy decided to go to the old abandoned Fort to play hide and seek! It was pitch black outside with a soft warm breeze kissing our cheeks. It wasn't a successful game because honestly it's impossible to find people in a huge Fort. But we laughed at nothing and we laughed at everything. Even when Robert was a teenager he had a "joie de vie" that was infectious and drew others to him. My heart goes out to his wife Lexi and their two precious girls. My heart aches for Bob and Jeanne and I cannot understand the pain they feel. I think of Bailey and Lucy and I want to bundle them up in a hug that never ends. But as Christians, we know that Roberts pain has ended. He is perfect now...forever young and forever joyful. I pray for his family that the Lord, "....girds up their loins..." and gives them a perfect peace that comes only from the Lord! May the light of God's love surround and protect you all.

I had the honor of attending St. Joe Catholic with Robert. What I remember the most is he had an uncanny ability to make those around him laugh and smile. I swear his smile is etched into my mind because this man was always a happy presence. He gave us so much, and never wanted nor would he have accepted anything in return. We love you Robert. I will cherish the time we were able to spend together, and try my best to celebrate your life by giving others what you gave me, warm feelings, smiles, and laughs, all on the house. Love you brother.

I saw Robert as a gentle giant. I remember the first time I met him. He showed me that big smile followed by soft kind words, and I knew he was just a teddy bear. He and my grandson Bruce Landing worked together for long hours on projects, but Robert never complained. He was driven and passionate especially about construction projects. After working well into the night one day, Robert decided to sleep the night at my house, after that he really felt like a family member. I will always remember his gentle and loving spirit. Robert was easy to love and connect to because he had a way of connecting to anyone. We loved Robert like one of the family.
God's Peace be unto you, the Sims, Thurman, & Landing family

I know I did not get to know Robert super well, but we met at Holmes CC in Ridgeland. We had a science class together that him and I had mutual friends in.
I remember this class being somewhat challenging but we worked hard. I remember during one of our "study breaks" Robert tried to encourage me to play some video games with him. It was a little moment that I now appreciate.
I also remember eating lunch at the restaurant about this time last year. He had one of his baby girls on his hip. I could see the love in his eyes for his kids. He was truly happy.
Lucy and Paige I am so sorry for your loss! I really am. If you ever need anything let me know.

Handsome Robert Hamil came into our lives in the early Fall of 2013!!!
I can still see his bright happy, smiling face coming into our house with my boys after school one day! I thought, “WOW, he is pure joy, sunshine and happiness!”
Everyone was so excited to have this tall, strong and handsome stud of a Fullback on the Senior St. Joe Bruin Football team!
It was such a privilege to meet with Jeanne and Bob Hamil every Friday afternoon that fall of 2013, as we served the team the very best pregame meals!
Robert was always a dynamic, strong, happy, easy going, kind, charming and humble young man with the most wonderful personality!!!
Almost ten years have pasted since then, and I just saw his same sweet and smiling face on Monday , March 27, as he walked through the door of my shop.
He gave me the biggest hug and I told him how much I have loved seeing his Mom, Lexie , Harper, Hayden, Bailey and Lucy! We visited for a few minutes and
he walked down the steps and then came right back up and gave me another big warm hug!! I will never forgot that sweet and loving moment the last time I saw him!
My heart breaks for this sweet and wonderful family!
Jeanne, Bob, Bailey and Lucy,
Roberts beautiful wife, Lexie and sweet daughters, Harper and Hayden will always have an angel watching over them and will always know how much they are loved!

Robert was always loving & kind spirted. I will forever treasure his smile and that big heart for helping other people. He reached beyond barriers and didn’t see color nor status, he would help ANYONE. I fee the warmest of his spirit whenever I use the fireplace he crafted for me. I trust his spirit is resting in the presence of God. John 14:1-3 God Bless

Robert will always remain in my memories as the smiley, happy go lucky dude that I knew in high school. He was strong as an ox, fearless, kind-hearted and could charm any girl he so desired. All of us SJ guys were intimidated by him at first and maybe even a little hostile towards him, but he quickly earned our respect and became one of us within a short period of time. He was always quick to make laugh and had a “go with the flow” energy about him that made him easy to hang around.
On the football field he was a menace, making huge plays on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball.
On offense, he ran like a bull. Straight up the gut, leaving trails of defenders battered, bruised and crying for their momma’s. Those brave enough to try to tackle him might’ve ended up with a minor concussion from the shear force he brought with him through the hole as he carried the ball. I remember, we were running a halfback blast to the weak side where I was supposed to target the linebacker and be the lead blocker on the play, however, I tripped off of the DT on my way up to make the lead block and Robert ran right over me and gained 10 yards without even needing a lead blocker. I had a size 13.5 cleat print on my back for the next couple of weeks but it was totally worth it.
Defensively, he kept his end of the defensive locked down, giving running backs no hope of running the ball outside towards the open green and quarterbacks would fear the pass rushing beast coming to seal their doom with a sack. We had this defensive play where I would line up in the end position and he would line up where the outside linebacker was and I would basically take on the tackle and guard while he blitzed the backfield to make a sack. Robert told me that was his favorite play on defense because he loved to beat up on quarterbacks.
Off the field, Robert was a charming young man. We shared the same art class. Our teacher was a young tall and pretty woman in her mid twenties that had a huge crush on Robert. One day as we were painting she took his hand and gazed at it with such awe in silence for a good 5 seconds then said, “Your hands are just so rough and manly. I would love to draw them sometime.” Robert then looked up at me red as a cherry with the warm goofy smile we all know, and started giggling like a little school girl. He had no response and she blushed and walked off.
He was such a kind soul, selfless, generous and always looking out for the best in people. His wife and daughters are a reminder of God’s love for humanity and the Angels earned a new starting fullback to help with their offensive scheme.

Robert was a dear friend, even when people didn’t necessarily deserve it. He had such a creative and mechanical mind. Robert always had to personalize whatever project he was working on. He turned his football locker into a mini football field by gluing Astro turf to the bottom of it and painting yard lines on the turf. He painted his whole locker blue and gold for SJ. He did these things with his jeep and just about everything he owned.
Robert had a contagious laugh that would get himself and our friend group in trouble. During class at SJ, he would randomly start laughing for no reason and we couldn’t help but laugh too, Usually resulting in detention slips.
Robert usually Spoke in tongues when attempting to explain the fun he just had mud riding. After proceeding to sink his jeep into the mud, he would come give us a vivid description of what just happened. “Mane I just went submarining in the mud, I was like scuba scuba in that mug” no one knew what he meant but Robert was smiling ear to ear with that goofy contagious laugh, and we all just laughed with him.
After high school I didn’t run into Robert too often, but when I did it was like we picked up where we left off. I also didn’t get to meet Lexi and his daughters but the love he had for them was so evident. The most encouraging aspect about catching up when occasionally bumping into Robert, was his continuous growth for Christ. His conversations shifted from mud riding/projects, and more towards his thankfulness to God for his wife and daughters. We all miss Robert so dearly, but I know for a fact he’s with the Lord and for that, I’m so so happy for him.
