Mary Josephine McGowan Jones, of Morton, was born August 5, 1936 in Louisiana. She was the daughter of Major Charles McGowan, Sr. and Margaret Hill McGowan.
She was a factory worker and loving mother of 4 beautiful children, loving, kind, and a devoted Christian who loved gospel music. Her Journey in gospel music started in 1961. She ministered in song for 8 years in Topeka, Kansas then returned back to Jackson, MS in 1969 due to her mom being sick. Mary Jones continued ministering in song up until she became very sick with breast cancer in 1997. In 2017 she was diagnosed with Dementia and passed April 5, 2023 at the age of 86.
She is survived by her children, Charolotte Morgan, Diana Errington and David Jones; grandchildren, Daniel Miller, Heather Miller McCrory, Nikki Miller Risher, Alisha Jones Breazeale, Benjamen Morgan, Brandon Jones, and Tristan Jones; great grandchildren, Nicholas Boykin, Caleb McCrory, MacKenzie McCrory, and Scout McCrory; great great grandchild, Jason McPhail; and sisters, Betty Jo Raymond and Debres Holliday.
Mary is preceded in death by a son, Mark Jones, sisters, Margaret Glazner, Rebecca McGowan and Glenda Edwards; brothers, Major Charles McGowan, Jr. and Bruce McGowan; and both of her parents.
A graveside service will be Friday April 7, 2023, at 10am at Natchez Trace Memorial Park Cemetery in Madison, MS.
