Obituary of William Lee Childress

William Lee Childress, 88 of Flora, MS was called home to be with the Lord on May 26, 2017. In Kosciusko, MS. Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at Natchez Trace Funeral Home in Madison, MS. Visitation will be held an hour prior to memorial service.

 

William was born on April 23, 1929 to John & Catherine Childress in Flora, MS. He grew up in Flora where he also attended and graduated from Flora High School. After school William was drafted in the Army and served our country as a true patriot and from November of 1950 until October of 1952. He was in the Korean War and received a Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Service Medal and a National Service Medal. After serving our country William went into law enforcement as a deputy sheriff and served for many years until becoming an officer for the Public Service Commission under the Railroad Division. In his spare time, he liked to go fishing with family and friends but he absolutely loved to travel. He was deeply involved in his VFW Post and was State Commander for a period of time.  Mr. William was a good family man who would do anything for anyone ever in need. He leaves behind a legacy of courage, honor, and faith in which are all rare qualities today that we as Americans should look up to and cherish.

William is preceded in death by his parents, John & Catherine Childress, and one brother, Ben Childress.

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years Mrs. Mary Nell Childress of Jackson, MS., 2 sons, David Childress and his wife Melinda of Flora, MS., Lewis Childress and his wife Georgia of Flora, MS., 3 daughters, Sara Holcomb and her husband Brad of Flora, MS., Amy Long and her husband Alan of Lucedale, MS., and Julia Walley and her husband Dan of Flora, MS., 2 sisters, Kay Hunt and her husband Bill of Flora, MS., and Nancy Younkers of Jackson, MS., 1 sister in law, Elaine Childress of Flora, MS., 3 brothers, Jack Childress and his wife Virginia of Flora, MS., Joe Childress and his wife Mary Ann of Flora, MS., and Don Lane and his wife Mary Lou of Flora, MS.,  13 Grandchildren and  17 Great Grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers for William Lee Childress, the family wishes all donations be made to:

 American Legion Post 112, P.O. Box 6598, Jackson, MS.
