James Harold “Jim” Butler
September 5, 1948- August 25, 2023
Jim Butler, 74, went to be with our Lord on Friday evening at his residence in the City of Madison. A believer and follower of Jesus Christ as his Savior, Jim was a member of First Baptist Church Madison.
As a graduate of Madison-Ridgeland High School and Mississippi State University, Jim was active in the Boy Scouts of America, various church youth activities, and school athletics. He served his country in both the U.S. Marine Corp and the U.S. Army Reserves.
Jim’s professional career began as a representative with the Mississippi Farm Bureau and he later served as a lobbyist for the Mississippi Power Association. Jim was known for being one of the “best homebuilders” throughout the metro area. He also served as Madison County Election Commissioner for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Hawkins Butler. He leaves behind his sons James Bradley Butler of Livingston, Texas and Joseph “Joe” Richard Butler (Gretchen) of Madison, his grandchildren Isabel, Knox and Layla, and his siblings Pat Truesdale of Ridgeland and brother Eddie Butler (Jill) of Ethel Mississippi.
The family expresses their sincere gratitude to those who cared for Jim during his illness. Dr. Ruth Fredericks, Dr. Anju Marya, Amanda Houck, Paula French, Anita Gibbon, and Alma Brown will always be in our hearts.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to your church’s children’s ministry.
Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church Madison on Tuesday, August 29, at 3:00 p.m. The family will have a private graveside gathering following the service.
