Edith King Booth, 79, of Brandon, MS passed away on December 21, 2024.
Edith was born on October 18, 1945 to T.R. and Edna Coile King. She grew up in Jackson, Mississippi, graduated from Provine High School and Mississippi College. In 1966, she married James "Jim" William Booth. They lived in Hattiesburg where they were active in Temple Baptist. During this time they felt God's call to serve Him. They moved to New Orleans for James to attend the New Orleans Seminary. This was the beginning of their lifetime service in deaf ministry. They have served churches in New Orleans, LA, Portland, OR, Lafayette, LA, and at Woodland Hills Baptist in Jackson, MS.
During all of these ministries, Edith worked alongside James by teaching deaf children, leading deaf choir and interpreting. For many years, Edith worked as a sign language interpreter in public schools in Lafayette, LA and at Hinds Community College in Raymond, MS. Because of the needs for resources for deaf ministry, they had a publishing business - Let's Sign. They published numerous materials for use in deaf churches and deaf ministry. Their final ministry after retiring was at Pinelake Baptist in Flowood, MS working as a volunteer in the deaf ministry.
Edith is survived by her husband, James "Jim" W. Booth; daughter, Suzanne Berthuy, DeeAnne Booth; nephews, Ernest King, Jr., David King, Justin King, Steven Booth, Anthony Hall; Nieces, Judi Thornton and Sharon Pierce. She is preceded in passing by her parents, Theodore Roosevelt and Edna Coile King; brothers, Ernest Muriel King and John Ralph King.
There will be a visitation at Natchez Trace Funeral Home on Friday, January 10, 2025 beginning at 10:00am with a Celebration of Life service to follow at 11:00am.
