Growing up in Starkville was a privilege and boundless fun... especially when friends included the Strange family. I recall playing in their backyard on Gillespie St. They had the best swing set in town! That play turned into wiffle ball games in their front yard on Hwy 389, swimming pool races out back, and late night loud music in the basement. Yes, all basement events included Thad's famous popcorn! "... kind, loving, generous and thoughtful..." Like many others, I was a beneficiary. My vehicle always had something that needed fixed or improved. I never asked for help. Thad simply took the intiative. He was brilliant and creative. I recall him installing a device that allowed me to secretly pull a lever under the vehcile's seat (an old International pickup truck). When I did, it sounded like the Indy 500! I can see his huge smile right now after we tested it the first time! I also vivdly remember listening to his beautiful Mom tell funny stories and always offering some much needed guidance. My deepest sympathy to all of Thad's family. Thanks for the great times and special memories. RIP Thad.

I recall him installing a device, self-built, that allowed the driver to pull a hidden lever under the vehicle's seat (old International pickup truck). When I did, it sounded like the Indy 500! Thad and my brother, Tom Runnels, were the best of friends growing up; in fact, Thad and John were honorary members of the Runnels family, as were my three brothers members of the Strange family. Always fun, always kind and always so incredibly good-looking, Thad remains a fixture in our family stories. We lost Tom in 2012, and I'm so sad to see that now Thad has left the world, as well. My condolences to his family.

Andrea,
Our heartfelt condolences go out to you and your family during this time of sorrow. Thad was such a wonderful kind humble person, and he will be deeply missed by Carolyn, myself, and many others.
His kindness and warmth touched so many lives near and far over the years.
We cannot believe he's gone, but we know " God Knows Best". As he smiles down beyond the clouds over us all and saying he is at peace.
We hope the memories of the happy times you had together can be of some comfort during this difficult time in the days ahead.
We love you!
Carolyn and Marie
