Obituary of Gene Phillips, Jr.
Clarence Eugene (Gene) Phillips Jr. 1/07/1931 - -09/15/2018
Born at St. Dukes hospital in Jacksonville FL to Clarence Eugene Phillips & Helen Camille Phillips. Mr. Phillips attended West Riverside and Fishweir Grammar Schools then John Gorrie, St. Paul’s and Thomasville Jr. High Schools. Robert Eshee and Andrew Jackson Senior high schools and Sewanee Military academy where he graduated in 1950. He attended Emory University in Georgia and graduated with AA from Jacksonville, FL College in 1957. Married Teresa Thomas Phillips in 1955. Children are Lynn Marie Phillips-Gaines (Russell) and Clarence Eugene Phillips III and grandson Art Saisuphaluck (Ying) and great daughter Acelynn Saisuphaluck.
Mr. Phillips has worked as a house painter, carpenter’s helper, bank teller, building inspector, credit collector, billing clerk and as an Insurance Adjuster (for 50 years). Employed with Standard Accident Insurance Company of Detroit, General Adjustment Bureau and Phillips & Associates which he founded in August 1976. This corporation was statewide and Mr. Phillips was CEO until January 2004.
Mr. Phillips has been a long time member of Altlanta Claims Association , Mississippi Claims Association and the National Association of Insurance Adjusters. He was a member of Porte Vedra Country Club, Colonial Country Club, involved with Jackson Swim Association (JSA) as meet director (City Meet) and race starter. Mr. Phillips was an "athletic supporter" but not a participant in sports, except water skiing. He gave his family a love of sports car racing, taking family to Sebring, Rolex 24 hour and Road Atlanta and he crewed for Walker Racing Team at the Walter Mitty.
He enjoyed all five years of High School and Seven years of College university life. The thing he loved most was his family and doing things together.
