Richard Monroe Gentry passed away peacefully at Providence Hospital in Mobile, Al, on March 17m, 2020. He was 96 years old. Monroe was born in Noxubee County in 1923. He was a veteran, who served in England and France during WWII. Afterwards, he attended East Mississippi Junior College and Mississippi State University. In 1949 he married Elna Hurt. They were married 56 years. Monroe had a long and varied career in engineering, which took him all over the world. He was employed at Mississippi Chemical Corporation in Yazoo City, MS, for over 25 years. He is survived by his children, Don Gentry, Linda (Fulton) Thompson, and Cheryl Gentry; his wife of 14 years, Etta Gentry, and step-daughter Sherry (Verne) Denmark, as well as any nieces and nephews. A graveside service was held for immediate family at Natchez Trace Memorial Park.
