Obituary of Hugh L. Davis III

Please share a memory of Hugh to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Hugh Long Davis III (“Dave”), of Jackson, MS, was called home to be with the Lord on April 14, 2020 at the age of 63. A private family graveside service will be held on Friday, April 17, 2020 at 2:00PM at Jessamine Cemetery in Ridgeland, MS. Due to the current COVID-19 outbreak, a memorial service will be postponed until a larger gathering can be safely held. Notice will be given on Facebook. If you wish to visit the gravesite, Dave will be laid to rest on the far east end of the cemetery where there is a large Davis family headstone. Dave was born on September 9th, 1956 to Mrs. Joyce Caves Davis & Mr. Hugh L Davis Jr. in Wanesboro, MS. A native of Jackson, he graduated from St. Andrews Episcopal School, and then attended the United States Air Force Academy for one year. He went on to receive his bachelor’s degree and a master’s in business administration from the University of Mississippi. Later in life, he also earned a Ph.D. from the University of Southern Mississippi. Dave spent the majority of his career in commercial banking and investments, working for Deposit Guaranty and BancorpSouth before co-founding a registered investment advisory, Institutional Services Group LLC. However, Dave ended his career pursuing a passion for teaching as a professor at William Carey University’s School of Business. Dave was a beloved husband, father, son, and friend, but first and foremost, he was a faithful servant to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was a deeply empathetic and emotional man, who was never afraid to confess his faith or fight for what he believed was right. If you knew him at all, you knew he loved the Lord. He loved the ministry of the Navigators and was passionate about disciple-making. While he served the Church in many different capacities, he had a clear heart for the homeless and ministered faithfully on the Board of Gateway Rescue Mission for more than 30 years. A self-proclaimed “poor student”, Dave was always intellectually curious and a life-long learner. He was a prolific “idea guy”, who was always pursuing a new academic project or business venture, and he found great joy in devoting time and energy to solving problems for the many organizations with which he was involved. Dave was happiest spending time with his family and supporting their interests. He was a very involved father, who spent large amounts of time coaching his sons’ sports teams, leading boy scout activities, and of course, filming Jackson Prep Football, which he continued to do for many years after his sons graduated. While his focus was his family, he touched many lives in the process. Dave is preceded in passing by his father, Hugh L Davis Jr., and his son Thomas Davis. He is survived by his wife Robin Davis, his sons David and Layton, his sister Melissa Anne Davis McEachin of Franklin, TN, and his mother Joyce C. Davis of Franklin, TN. In lieu of sending flowers, the family asks that you donate to Gateway Rescue Mission (https://gatewaymission.org/) or a ministry of your choice.
