Obituary of Grace Ann Summers

Please share a memory of Grace to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? Psalm 27:1 Our beloved mother, Mrs. Grace Ann Summers, became our heavenly angel on March 15, 2023. Our mother was the tenth of twelve children, born September 29, 1943, to Sandy and Lamar Marshall in Glen Allen, Mississippi. Affectionately known as Dee, she graduated from Brinkley High School in 1961. On March 12, 1965, Grace met and married Mr. Meland Summers, Sr., and welcomed three children. A loving spirit with a bright smile for all she met, her willingness to serve others is the legacy left with all who knew her. Grace worked for The Balcony for many years. After many years of service to The Balcony, Grace found her calling to help people by earning a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license to become a private sitter. Our mother was dedicated to service and joined Greater Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in September 1979, where she became a Sunday School teacher, an usher, and President of the Senior Usher Board, to name a few. She was a dedicated and faithful member and served in many capacities at the church until her health declined. Grace was preceded in death by her parents, Sandy and Lamar Marshall Sr; five brothers: Sandy “Uncle June” Marshall, Jr.; William “Bill” Marshall; Wiley Marshall; Henry “Jay” Marshall; and Alan “Jango” Marshall. Four sisters: Lula “Mae” Moore, Golden “Doll” Montgomery, Rosetta “Sookie” Poe, and Adlean “Fat” Morris. Grace leaves to cherish her memory a devoted husband of 58 years, Meland Summers, Sr., Jackson, Mississippi; one son, Meland Summers, Jr., Vicksburg, Mississippi; two daughters: Carolyn Thompson, Jackson, Mississippi, and Daphia (Marcus) Bailey, Madison, Mississippi; one stepson, Perry Tillman, Bolton, Mississippi; one grandson, Coby Jones; one granddaughter, Pier Thompson; one brother, Samuel (Barbara) Marshall Sr., Jackson, Mississippi; one sister, Pauline (Thomas) Warren, Fayetteville, Georgia, along with a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
