Lorraine Young Jackson, 98, of Ridgeland, passed away on May 27, 2023, with beloved family by her side. She was born on November 14, 1924, to Louis and Easter Young in Hazlehurst, MS. She professed Christ at an early age and was a member of Mount Hope Church of Christ Holiness, USA, Hazlehurt, MS. She graduated from Hazlehurst Colored High School (1945), and went on to achieve her bachelor's degree from Tougaloo Southern Christian College (1958) and furthered her education obtaining her master's degree from University of Southern Mississippi (1975). Lorraine worked as a Teacher in the Clarke, Copiah, Quitman, Scott, and Claiborne County school districts. She was a member of Delta Sigma Theta, Order of the Eastern Star, and The National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women's Club, Inc. Mrs. Jackson is also recognized as very active in volunteer work. She was one of 6 recipients of the 1979 Mississippi Volunteer Activist of the Year award, sponsored by the National Center of Voluntary Action, McRae's Dept. Stores, and the Germain Monteil Cosmetique Corporation, having signed over 500 health fair attendees. She also earned the position of Director with Mary Kay Cosmetics and served as Alcorn Alumni Chapter President of Delta Sigma Theta in the 1973-74 term. Aside from her many accomplishments, Mrs. Lorraine loved gardening and planting, doing various arts and crafts, and staying in touch with family and friends. She was a connector of people and enjoyed working with different community groups. Lorraine is survived by her loving spouse of 74 years, Dr. Willie F. Jackson; sons, Greg Jackson and Roderic Jackson; and sister, Dorothy Waite; and a host of nephews, nieces, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Louis Young; mother, Easter Killingsworth; siblings, Robert Mordecai Young, Albert George Young, Sr., Thorunton Young, Sr., Charles Young, Louis Willie Young II, Edell Young, Glorious Polite, Rosie Collins, Lillie Lauderdale, Mary Mason, and Herdisene Harrington. Thank you to Chelsea Ford, Rosie Barrett, Mary Ann Killingsworth, Delmar Stamps, Addie Walker, and Emma Williams. Visitations will be held on Tuesday, June 13th from 5-7pm and on Wednesday, June 14 from 11am-12pm with a Celebration of Life service to follow. Burial will take place at Natchez National Cemetery in Natchez, MS on Thursday, June 15, 2023, at 12:30pm.
