The world is a better place because of you Red. Your love for Jenny and Abe, the Scouts, Fishing, Motorcycling, and the outdoors were evident in all of your activities. You made a difference. Red. My goodness. How do you contain all the goodness that was Red (or Raymond as his beloved wife calls him) how do you contain all that goodness into a couple of paragraphs? Where do you start?
My life was a living hell.
How ‘bout we start there.
My life was a living hell and Red and his wife and their son Abe threw me and mine a lifeline. A lifeline in the form of genuine friendship that included game nights and Boy Scouts and shooting pool double dates that extended on for years, not just a casual, “Ok, I was nice to you once, now I don’t have to think about you anymore.”
Or how ‘bout when I was at my wits end, Red and his some Abe just showed up one night and offered to take our son Ian to scouts with them. And then did that for years. Yep. Years. That boy of mine always wanted to be a scout, and because of Red taking my boy under his wing, and Abe being that kind friend too, as well as my husband Peter’s effort, my son earned his Eagle Scout last year. But it never would have happened if Red and Abe hadn’t first offered Ian that ride that went on for weeks and years.
And then there was the ever present site of Red fishing when he got home from work. Or taking his Jenny on a canoe or kayak ride in the evenings. They’d been together forever, but Red was obviously smitten with his wife as much now as he was with her in high school. And I’ll be honest, I always smiled when I heard Red’s motor bike come growling home for a lunch break, though in my mind, he was never going home to eat lunch. He was going home to spend a sweet hour with Jenny. And that always made my heart glad.
They’re that belly laugh if his that would lift the whole room. Santa wishes he laughed like that.
They’re the jokes and the wave that always brought a sense of comfort.
You see Red made the world better every day. He helped pull me and mine outta Hell without making it a big deal.
He was a true Scout.
He was a mentor to my son.
He was an amazing Dad to Abe and a great husband.
Red was my friend.
His memory will be eternal.
